Reading Quizzes (10 points each)
You will have in-class quizzes periodically. These quizzes will be basic checks to make sure you are keeping up with your reading!
Nightly Homework (30 points)
In addition to reading the chapters assigned for each night, you will be responsible for two assignments while you read.
- Every time you see a moment in the book where a main character (Nathan, Ruku, or one of their children) has hope, put a post it note in your book. Write one sentence on the post it note to describe the moment. You should do this EVERY TIME you see a moment of hope! 10 points each night.
- You will be writing one chunk each night. It will be stamped and will be collected about once a week. You only write one chunk, whether you’ve read one chapter or more. 20 points for each chunk.
In your chunk, you need to state the following:

(character) (one major way the character maintains hope)
CD: Quote intro and a quote about how the character you’ve chosen maintains hope in this reading. Don’t forget a text note.
AP: Analyze how the character maintains hope IN THIS MOMENT.
AP: Explain how this action will keep them going, despite whatever challenges they face.
CS: Conclude by explaining how people like this character could maintain hope by acting in this way.
